Our Impact

Formed in 1993 as a Development Education Centre we have used creative and participatory learning experiences since then to increase awareness of the global dimension (conflict resolution, human rights, social justice, sustainability, global citizenship and interdependence, and diversity) to our lives and encourage action towards a fairer and more sustainable world.

we engaged 550 young people and educators in global learning relating to migration, human rights and climate change.

We run practical sustainability projects such as food growing at a local community farm, cooking projects with local produce, the Blue Influencers Scheme and we are a key partner in the local Closing Loops project.

In 2007 we started bringing the global dimension to the study of local heritage and have delivered many community heritage projects that help build local communities as well as develop volunteer-produced learning resources such as Migration Stories North West, Learning from the Past and Documenting Dissent.

we worked with 15 volunteer community researchers in Carnforth to document the history of Carnforth library.

In 2015 we responded quickly to growing needs of asylum seekers and refugees and are now the leading local organisation providing holistic support and integration in partnership with many other organisations.

Last year we supported 410 asylum seekers and refugees.

97% of 119 asylum seeker refugee respondents in our annual feedback survey said that Global Link’s support was excellent or very good.

Our external consultant writes, ‘This simple survey has provided strong evidence that the ASR who participated are benefiting from Global Link’s services in the key ways intended (reducing isolation, learning skills, and becoming better able to get work), plus they highly rate the support that they receive.’
