Jezhwan’s interview
Jezhwan is an asylum seeker who has engaged in many of Global Link’s activities, has regularly volunteered, and has been supported through the asylum process, including appealing against a termination of his Section 95 support which affected his right to legal aid
The experience of Global Link is very good. My level of the language doesn’t enable me to describe the feeling. I think you know when an asylum seeker arrives in this country, they don’t expect anyone to welcome them. Honestly. Let’s talk about my experience. When I was in London, I moved to Lancaster after two days. I had no idea how it’s going to be and who’s going to welcome us. And I was not sure that the hotel was going to welcome us, or the locals. But when I found out that there is someone in a charity organization happy to listen to asylum seekers and to meet them, I was happy. For me, it was somehow finding home. After two years of being in Lancaster as an asylum seeker, I can say that Global Link has always been a voice in our heads. We are here for you. You’ve always been here for us. Without Global Link we have no idea how to cooperate with this country, how to improve our English, how to integrate with the community. In our language, we say God locks you in one hand and in another hand God gives you another blessing. We all have beliefs, countries, cultured. But God has sent us Global Link to bless us. This is my feeling exactly. In terms of Global Link, I can’t find the right words to describe it. All I want to say is I say thank you deeply from my heart. May Allah give you all the blessings. But thank you for the people who are funding you, who are helping you. I’m very grateful and I’m grateful on behalf of myself and on behalf of the asylum seekers who can’t speak English, I’m sure they have this same feeling that they can’t express themselves.
